From the world's leading business communication author, this quarterly e-newsletter brings you teaching tips, classroom techniques, current events, and handouts to enrich your courses.
Winter 2014 - Inside This Issue
I hope you had a pleasant break from classes and that 2014 is a good year for all! I know it is positively freezing throughout much of the country as I write, but here in California, we are experiencing the worst drought we have had in over a century.
As Mary Ellen told you in our last issue, I'm excited to be joining the newsletter team! I've worked with Mary Ellen for six years as her co-author for Essentials of Business Communication and Business Communication: Process and Product. As an instructor, I have always enjoyed the valuable articles and exercises the newsletter contains.
In my new role, I will be working with our newsletter editor, Janet Mizrahi. She and I have some wonderful changes up our sleeves. At this point, we can promise you an exciting social media presence, complete with Facebook page and Twitter posts. And our new blog will bring you curated news, interesting and helpful classroom exercises, and ways for you to join the conversation about teaching business communication. We'll keep you posted!
Business Communication: Process and Product 8e—Ready to Go!
Social media, mobile technology, and cloud computing are driving exciting changes in the workplace, changes so rapid and profound that they seem to outpace even a three-year publishing revision cycle. We took on the challenge to provide you and your students the high-quality, award-winning book you have come to expect. As always, BC:PP focuses on writing skills across channels old and new and will help make your students into global, digital-era communicators. Request a desk copy or access to CourseSmart from your Cengage sales representative or at cengagebrain.com.
For a preview of what BC:PP 8e offers, check out this month's activity, Skyline Customer Service chat. This authentic individual or team activity calls for analysis and, if you choose, revision. The emphasis is on professional best practices for instant messaging.
Essentials of Business Communication 10e "Under Construction"
At this very moment, we are hard at work on the anniversary issue of Essentials of Business Communication, 10e, available in October 2014. As with BC:PP, the task before us is to continue to provide a market-leading book while offering students a contemporary, real-world foundation they will need for career success. Presenting best practices and documents culled from a radically changing workplace is not the only hurdle. To distill the complexity of today's workplace processes, procedures, and types of documents to their "essentials" is a whole different challenge. Stay tuned!
Follow me on Twitter!
Finally, I'd love for you to join me on Twitter @danaloewy! You will find a broad array of interesting subjects in business communication, traditional media, social media, newsy corporate tidbits, education, and pedagogy—any item that might be relevant to us as instructors and engaged human beings. Expect a nonpartisan look at selected business news, topics you can use in the classroom, and links to high-quality curated articles and media. Occasional NASA images, stunning nature photography, and tasteful humor may also be in the mix! Most important, I hope to engage in a stimulating dialogue with you.
I hope you enjoy the January issue of our newsletter! Please don't hesitate to contact me to share your opinions and suggestions.
